Tucked behind another restaurant, a little hidden from the strip, we found Cafe Verde and I'm so glad we did! As a vegetarian I was having trouble finding variety and was glad to find that this cafe alone had a few unique options for me! My in-laws had the bowl which looked delicious, and I had the tofu tacos. I think the tofu could have had more flavor and/or veggies and I was still a little hungry after I finished but after ordering a side of rice and beans it was a good, well-rounded meal! My husband had fish that he really liked and the plantains that it came with as a side were delicious. The scene was pretty casual and the staff was really nice; it was a good choice!

Plantains and street corn and fish tacos, oh my! Wandered into this New Smyrna gem after my friend and I were contemplating the menu of the Tex-Mex-by-numbers place next door. A woman passing by said: "It's good. There's also a good place with a healthy take on Mexican food over there." Yes, please. Really cute atmosphere, nice beer selection, and delicious food! The whitefish tacos were amazing. If I ever open a restaurant I'm stealing their street corn presentation. SO GOOD! They give you three partial cobs on sticks, just like you get them from an elotes truck, and they're smothered with whatever they put on them that tastes so damn good. I really didn't not expect to find such a delightful lunch in a little beach town on the off-season during a day spent rambling around Florida, but there you are!

Tacos weren't anything special, service was bad. Forgot my order, then took 20 minutes to check out when we had finished. Need more staff. Nothing special about this place...

So happy I ate here. Lots of restaurants in NSB are fish heavy or offer a lot of fried food. I enjoyed eating a salad, and I felt great afterward. I ordered the kale salad after seeing the positive reviews here. Very good. The brussels sprouts recommended here were underwhelming when I tried them. Maybe it was a bad night for them. The cheese did not have much flavor. It's not worth having them lose a star over a veggie most other people hate, so I'm keeping this at 5 stars. Service was excellent.

Just found this gem and I literally want to eat here for almost all my meals when I visit New Smyrna!! The tacos were great but the Brussels sprouts ( which I do not like) had me coming back for more each day:))) the soup was so flavorful and a perfect meal with the addition of those delish Brussel sprouts, asparagus, and cashews!!! Thank you:)

Fabulous fresh food! Have eaten here twice; both times everything we ate was delicious. Favorites were the Brussels sprouts with asparagus and cashews and the kale salad. Cute place; excellent service, nice and casual (beach town). This place makes healthy taste delicious!

We've been here twice now and have enjoyed EVERYTHING that we ordered. The black bean noodle appetizer as we as the shrimp ceviche with watermelon are delicious! Everything is fresh and prepared perfectly. We will definitely return and totally recommend trying it out.

Seriously - so so good. The avocado shrimp ceviche salad is amazing! Although the category is "ethnic food" I wouldn't exactly say that. Coming from California it is nice to find a place that is healthy but also delicious- it is so hard to go out to eat in Florida and eat healthy- but this place is very trendy and has fresh food that is delicious. They also have a small, but great selection of beers and wines. Fresh and delicious!

Came here the other night with a few friends and it was fantastic. I had the chicken adobe salad and tried the lamb gyro and an eggplant dip which were all perfect and very reasonably priced. The service was fast and friendly, we will definitely be back.

We went for ladies lunch. It was PERFECT! I had the ceviche and plantains. The plantains were cooked to perfection, not to greasy and a caramelization on the outside. Other dishes order were taco and gyros. All looked very good.

Fresh and delicious. we had the Brussels sprouts and the chicken bowl (rice, black beans, pico, and guacamole) it was all very flavorful. Yesterday we had lunch here also and I had the chicken gyro which was delicious as well. Service is great, staff is friendly. Highly recommended.

Cafe Verde has the absolute best food in New Smyrna. Their kale salad is the BEST SALAD I've ever had in my life. The dressing is so amazing that I seriously want to drink it. The plantain bowl (add spring mix) is awesome, and so are the vegan tacos, brussels sprouts, and yucca fries. Also, get the lentil soup and hibiscus tea!

The sautéed Brussels sprouts are a real crowd pleaser. They are sautéed with cashews, garlic, and Parmesan. Perfectly cooked. The pork tacos were very tender and flavorful. But the real star are their homemade salsas and hot sauces. Wish they bottled them both. Very good for lunch.

This place is amazing! The food is AMAZING! I can't believe I've only just discovered it and I've only been there twice so far. Such a pleasant atmosphere. Not loud or chaotic, just very relaxed. They have an inviting, shaded, outdoor patio in addition to the cozy indoor seating. The staff is incredible. Friendly, available and attentive without being overbearing. We never had to wait for anything, yet our meal was never unnecessarily interrupted either. Rare combination! The food is SPECTACULAR! I can be sort of a picky eater. Quick to assume I don't like something because I've never had it, doesn't sound good, or I just didn't like the way it was prepared the first time I had it. I was skeptical of the two meals I've had there, but thank goodness I ignored my natural lunacy! The Adobo Chicken Tacos were so flavorful and screamed freshness. Typically, I would've asked them to hold the avocado salsa (I can't like that, right? Wrong!) and then smothered them in sour cream instead. DON'T DO THAT! Simple, but so dang yummy! Also had a brunch special which I can only hope they permanently put on the menu. They called it Green Eggs and Ham. Two poached eggs, on a bed of asparagus, topped with hollandaise sauce and sliced ham. Roasted red potatoes on the side. Aside from the potatoes, I didn't expect to like any of all that. My husband ordered it, I tried it, then promptly scarfed down at least half of it. It was truly divine! Well, feels like I'm gushing here..kinda am...what can I say? Loved it!! Can't wait to go back!

While visiting from out of town, we used Yelp to find this restaurant. We knew we wanted some fresh, healthy options for dinner. After looking through some of the online photos, we were sold. We had to have those tacos. The restaurant was conveniently located less than a block from our hotel. It had indoor & outdoor seating, we chose to eat indoors. There were about 8 tables indoors + the bar; despite its small size it wasn't cramped & you didn't feel like you were being overheard by the other tables. Although it doesn't appear to be a family restaurant, my 8 year old was welcomed without a problem & there were items on the menu he could choose from. The rest of the patrons were without kids. We got the chips & salsa sampler as an app, and we each chose tacos - adobo chicken, fish, and carnitas. We devoured them, they were fresh & delicious! We also got two sides of plantains. The waitstaff was polite & attentive. I wish I could pack this restaurant in my suitcase & take it home with me. I loved everything about it!

Loved this restaurant. The menu was eclectic somewhat Mexican Asian Fusion with the emphasis on fresh local. The mussels steamed in sake with baby bok choy was awesome sweet spicy and delicious. The crevices were excellent and the mahi was very fresh. I had the two scallop tacos and was very surprised at how much there was on the plate. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We visit the beach regularly and will definitely return.

Excellent lunch very fresh ingredients! I will certainly return, great service. Win Win! It's located behind Clancys, yelp worried me when I couldn't find it. You will not be disappointed, start with a Sangria and fresh guacamole!

Don't judge a book by its cover. Especially if the name is Café Verde. This restaurant sits on a side street off the main beach strip in New Smyrna Beach in a pale green building. If you blink, you might miss it. We were looking for a quiet place to eat after spending the morning at the beach. If it wasn't for a friend's recommendation coupled with the good Yelp reviews, we probably would have passed this place up. We are so glad that we didn't! The space is super small inside with only about 12 tables (no booths) and a small bar. There was only one family eating in the restaurant at the time we arrived. By the time we finished with lunch, the restaurant filled up with more customers. The menu was simple and allowed us to make our choices fairly quickly. I enjoyed a glass of house sangria while my husband opted for a bottled beer. For an appetizer, we tried the sauteed brussels sprouts. All the flavors really come together with this dish - the sprouts, asparagus, garlic, and cashews were roasted up in oil and then sprinkled with some nice parmesan cheese. We laughed as a group of about six ladies came in after us and four out of the six ordered brussels sprouts just for themselves! For my main dish, I had the carnitas tacos and loved them. My husband selected the lamb gyro. It appeared to be messy and watery as it fell apart on his plate. He said it tasted great though and had a good amount of meat for his carnivorous taste. We enjoyed this restaurant and would happily come back again.

I found this place on yelp and decided to try it out on my recent trip to New Smyrna Beach. We went for lunch on a Friday around 12:30pm. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is shaded. There is parking in the attached parking lot or you can parallel park on Flagler Ave. The staff greeted us and told us to pick a table. The kitchen is open so you can watch the chef at work. There is a bar with about 8 seats. The menu is a mix of ethnic flavors: greek, Mexican, Asian, etc. We started with the chips and salsa trio. None of the salsas were spicy. I liked the one that had some sort of seed in it. There are two red salsas and one green. The rice bowls are freshly made with black beans, choice of meat, guacamole. I chose the pork which is shredded and juicy. The side of plantains have the blackened edges which make them sweet like candy. The chicken soup has diced chicken and tortilla chips. Overall, the food is good but with so many options in New Smyrna I probably wouldn't rush back.

I love love love Mexican food. This place is legit. Quick, fresh and flavorful. Portions were the right size and the ceviche and guacamole was perfect. Plus they give you enough chips to go with the portions. The staff is attentive and friendly and everything on the menu sounds delicious- I just didn't have enough man power to eat more than what I did. Would def go back.

This place will blow your mind! Every time! I have always been taken care of. I'm not royalty but it sure makes me feel like it whenever I'm here. Absolutely amazing guys, if you keep getting better then i don't mind driving 60 miles for your grub! AWESOME. (Brussel sprouts are my weapon of choice).

Stopped by for a late lunch and what a pleasant surprise. Started with guacamole best I have had in a long time. Wife had sangria she loved it I had Carne Asida taco and street corn. We loved this place and the service was second to none. Off the Main Street but worth it.

Fantastic. One of the best places in florida to get tacos. Despite the price, the food is absolutely the bomb. I got the carnitas tacos. They went down smooth and were quite filling. The Pico, avacado sauce, and the salsa verde blended amazingly well with the meat. I was highly impressed with the quality of the food here. Also the rice and beans, usually not worth mentioning, were worth mentioning. I could only describe the taste as creamy with a tiny pinch of spice. Overall I'd recommend the living crap out of this place to any one in search of Latin American food.

Outstanding fresh food made to order in what appears to be a scratch kitchen. Gyros and Salads are outstanding and my favorite but everythung seems to be delicious. Small place that is a hidden treasure behind Clancys.

LOVE this place! great food, great prices, great atmosphere. NSB definitely needs more places like this! I had the quinoa salad with avocado and the carne asada tacos. The dressing on the quinoa salad was a bit much but otherwise it was very delicious and the tacos are super great and a great price. I recently had the Orecchiette Mushroom Alfredo pasta with chicken and the BLT Scallop Tacos. The pasta was DELICIOUS.... I'm sure it's full of fat, lol. But very very very good. The Scallop tacos were overwhelmed with bacon, there was just too much of it. Bacon is such a strong flavor. We picked off the bacon and that made the tacos much more delicious. It's bistro style ordering with some table service and you seat yourself. There is some outside seating as well which is always wonderful. I can't wait to go back to try all the other items on the menu! yum yum!

My favorite place in nsb with creative and flavorful options. Lived the carnita torta and kale salad. The brussel sprouts with cashews are amazing . I look for every excuse I can find to go here. This is the only 5 stars I've ever given to any restaurant on Yelp.

Cafe Verde My wife and I ordered Carnita and Plantain Bowl. Delicious, refreshing and just down right delicious. The tender pork melted in my mouth and my wife commented that the sweet plantains were incredible. Beautiful interior design with hints of warm orange and cool green. The patio pergola was gorgeous.

Very tasty I had the kale salad. Excellent. Good place to go if you are on a gluten free diet. They have vegetarian options too. The proportions are not overwhelming. No one in my party needed a take home sak but all left pleased and satisfied.

The food here is really good. I love the fresh approach they have on their menu. A lot of unique items you won't see at another restaurant. They have a nice selection of teas to pick ftom. Their green tea is really refreshing. They have a new outside area...very cute. I do wish they had fans out on the patio. The inside is kind of small and when it's packed with people there's usually room to sit outside but it's really hot and no air.

Service is pretty terrible. Basically just waiting and waiting and more waiting. The food was alright, I ate the tacos. It just wasn't worth the long wait (along two hours total for tacos) and the bad service.

Super healthy and delicious restaurant here in NSB! A nice change from your typical fried fish joints, pizza, or Mexican. Service was excellent as well. Only complaint is they are closed on Mondays, and close early at 9:00pm the rest of the week. Can't rave enough about how great the food is and all HEALTHY options!!

I went here for lunch with my boyfriend. He order Mahi tacos and I order chicken rice bowl. Taste was ok nothing special, chicken was dry and not much of anything. My boyfriend food was terrible two little tacos came with two slice of small bite of fish with no sides at all. We sat close to the table and I realize the cook have no gloves and use his hand to wipe his mouth. As I pay close attention he didn't even wash his hand. Staff was busy chatting about their day and pay no attention to customer. Overall experience is one star, I give two stars for taste. I was very disappointed since I read all good review about it.

Intimate little lunch spot. It's got enough glitz for a romantic evening out too. I'd recommend sharing an order of plantains no matter the occasion!

Cafe Verde is my favorite restaurant in NSB! We have lived here for 14 years and there is a variety of good places to eat but because of the variety of food, the friendly & great service and it is about the "Flavor." We have been eating there since Day 1. Our daughter who was here from out of town for her birthday saw the website for the menu and asked if we could go to Cafe Verde. There were 6 family members and we all ordered something different and could of had more as the selections are incredible and filling. My new favorite item is the BLT Scallop Tacos-I don't eat bacon and asked that they leave it off-So Good!! Other items ordered was the Orecchiette Alfredo-Wild Mushroom Cream Sauce; The Lentil Soup and Kale Salad was perfect said my sister-in-law and of course we had to order the wonderful Sauteed Brussel Sprouts with Asparagus, Cashews and Parmesan Cheese. The Mussels have the best broth-It is a small, quaint cafe with great ambiance. Nice wines and a variety of tasty beers!

  • Joan D.

The Good-my husband loved his gyro the best he had, perfectly seasoned just perfect. He'll go back in a minute, hence the 2 stars Nice, friendly staff- nice wine selection reasonable prices The Bad- Why frozen fish near an ocean? Why farm raised tilapia when it's been known to be raised in sewerage in Thailand? Shrimp avocado cerviche salad- probably 3 shrimp cut up, more lettuce than anything, no lime/lemony flavor-which you want in a cerviche Oh well---back to Spanish River-thought I had another option

I really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately it fell a little short. While everything tasted fine, the food was a little bland in my opinion, nothing packed that flavor that made you want to keep eating it. I ordered the carnitas torta, which was dripping in grease, not very pleasant to me. My boyfriend ordered the carnitas gyro, again it tasted fine but wasn't the greatest. We ordered both the plantains and black beans as a side, which were okay. I didn't see the widespread appeal to them, but they weren't bad. Overall, for the lower prices and quick service, it was not a bad place to eat lunch, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it unless someone was in a hurry, as we got our food within 5-10 minutes of ordering it. I would consider coming back to try my hand at the salads, as they seemed creative and appealing, hopefully we'll have better luck with those and return with a better review!
